Common effects include dizziness, nausea, diarrhoea and headache, generally mild at correctly calculated doses. After treatment for certain parasites, skin rash, itching or swelling can occur as parasites die off. Severe reactions — facial swelling, breathing trouble, vision changes — need urgent medical attention.

Flexibility. Ivermectin dosing is based on body weight, and 3 mg tablets let a doctor build an exact dose — say 9 mg or 15 mg — without splitting tablets. If your calculated dose isn't a neat multiple of 12, the 3 mg strength is the accurate option.

Avoid it on dosing day. Alcohol can raise ivermectin levels and intensifies dizziness and drowsiness. Once the dose is behind you and you feel normal, moderate drinking can resume — but ask your doctor if you're on a repeat-dose schedule.

The usual leaflet direction is on an empty stomach with water, at least an hour before a meal, because food changes absorption. Follow your prescriber's specific instruction if it differs, as some conditions are deliberately dosed with food.
